WITH strong commitments to the environment, the Ballarat Tech School has made the finals of a Premier’s Sustainability Award.

Nominated in the Education category, the school is being recognised for their War on Waste – Precious Plastic Program.

Highlights of the project include a collaboration with plastic recycler, Replas which got students creating entrepreneurial solutions to reducing waste by making sustainable products.

The school’s Girls in STEM partnership with Bartlett’s earlier in the year had students designing new products from industrial fabric offcuts, and a Ballarat STEM Network event featuring the ABC’s War on Waste presenter, Craig Reucassel addressed needs to change attitudes to waste.

Ballarat Tech School Director, Sofia Fiusco is delighted by how far the facility has come.

“We will continue to work with industry and the community to help create a sustainable future. Our Partner School students are to be congratulated for their work and commitment in this field,” she said.
