SOCIAL tennis on back on court as with Bannockburn’s club is looking to mingle with the community.

On Friday, 12 August, people are invited into their Milton Street clubrooms for what secretary Rachael Le Maitre said will be a fun, sociable evening.

“We just really want as many people as possible to come along, bring their racquet, have a play or not, and just be social,” she said.

“We’ll have the barbecue on, we’ll have Hot Shots going for children of any standard or age to have a hit.”

The clubrooms and front courts will be in use for attendees with racquets provided for anyone looking to have a hit.

With their winter player roster made up of 40 members across four junior teams and a senior team, Ms Le Maitre said the event will also showcase the club to prospective summer players.

“It’s not a recruitment drive but it might be a chance for someone not in a team to pop by and see about joining one of our teams for the warmer season,” she said.

The open night will be the club’s first social event of the year, and Ms Le Maitre said after two years of lockdowns, she’s keen to “get the ball rolling” on more community gatherings.

“We’ve had a lot of people enquiring over the last few years about social tennis and getting that started up,” she said.

“We’re hoping this will provide the catalyst to get that up and running, having regular get-togethers where the main goal isn’t just about playing tennis.

“And the back courts are always open to the public and I don’t think a lot of people realise that so this will have the added effect of just letting them know what’s available to them.”
