Town meeting for big bike ride
BICYCLE Network is inviting people from Inverleigh and surrounds for a community meeting tomorrow night in the leadup to this year’s Great Victorian Bike Ride.
Taking place from 6pm at the Inverleigh Recreation Reserve, spokesperson Caitlin Borchers said the event will provide information on how locals can make the most of the upcoming ride.
“It’ll let people know what’s going on when we come through town and it’s also a great opportunity for community groups to get involved,” she said.
“For the Great Victorian Bike Ride, we really encourage community groups in each town to get involved. They could run a sausage sizzle, a bake sale, even a fair or festival.
“We also have some volunteer roles to help with setup, so if we can get those community groups to come, we can let them know about those roles and how they can raise money for their local facilities.”
The Great Victorian Bike Ride will make its way through Inverleigh on Saturday, 3 December, coming up from Barwon Park Road before heading to Buninyong the next day.
The event will see Inverleigh host over 3000 people with overnight camping to be set up at the Rec Reserve.
Ms Borchers said the ride aims to bring an economic boost to every town it takes place in.
“We do find with the communities we visit, our riders are really engaged and they love coming back after and revisiting these places they haven’t been before,” she said.
“It’s a huge boom for the towns and with the community groups we provide that extra way to get involved.
“We try to look for little hidden gems. Inverleigh is a gorgeous little town and that’s what our riders love to visit and support.”
