NEW equine club, Golden Plains Trail Riders Inc is set to enjoy diverse country scenery in the Shire and beyond on horseback every second month.

Setting off from Berringa Recreation Reserve last Saturday morning, the group enjoyed its first ever ride.

Vice-president, Dianne Tobin “had a ball,” leading the way in her buggy. She encourages all horse lovers to simply bring their steed, its gear, and join in next time.

“It’s a really good feeling to give people the opportunity. I get to share where I ride and I’m chuffed to show them the bush areas they’re missing out on,” she said.

“It’s so nice to say, come and have a look at our Jubilee Mine, for example. They can have a walk around too.”

Ms Tobin said the club will always cover different trail routes, even with some beach rides.

“It will open eyes to other communities and areas, people will experience different things and meet different people.”

Future trail trips may run between one and three days, including camping.

“If it’s only a one-day event, people should bring a bucket so they can water their horse and a gold coin donation if they want a drink. Lunch is provided in the price of the ride and tea is included,” Ms Tobin said.

“If it’s a weekend ride, they’re to bring yards, or whatever they use to keep their horse in overnight. Entirely up to them, but they bring their horse’s food.”

The club is coordinating a High Country CFA fundraiser at the beginning of May.

“That will be a two-day ride, so they’ll camp overnight. We’ll get people from all over,” Ms Tobin said.

“It’s such a great group. The more the merrier, come along and have fun.”
