IF you’ve ever wanted to try Pilates and you’re in the Golden Plains Shire’s north, you have the opportunity this month, and you’ll be doing a good deed.

Although Genki Fit group fitness training has been running for 14 years, experienced trainer Jaymee Ellis has decided to expand her skills to include Pilates instruction, and she needs some students in order to become qualified.

“To get my mat Pilates certification, I need to do a number of classes, so I’m running these free Friday night sessions to encourage people to get active while I’m also learning as well,” she said.

“I’ve done a lot of group fitness work before in Smythesdale, but this is a new thing, so come along and try it out.”

The remaining sessions are this Friday 4 August, and next Friday 11 August, from 6pm to 6.30pm at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Facility, and will be targeted to beginners or those who have never done the style of exercise before.

“There will be a focus on breathing, and a full body workout, working the core, glute strength and balance,” Ms Ellis said.

“What I like about Pilates is the fact that it’s low impact and low intensity, and even if you’re not fit, or you have niggles or injuries, you will still be able to do the exercises, and you will feel as if you’ve achieved something afterwards.

“People can expect to be able to do the workout. Last session, I had 10 people in who had never done Pilates before.”

Ms Ellis’ aim is to incorporate Pilates into Genki Fit’s $5 class offerings once she is fully qualified.

“The only reason I’m doing it is to provide affordable and accessible fitness to the community, so it’s great when people do support it,” she said.
