CELEBRATING twenty years of painting together, Bannockburn’s Art Group is exhibiting a diverse range of works until 30 September.

Now on at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre, behind the library, the showcase features pieces by artists who meet every Thursday morning for a cup of tea, a chat and a paint.

Group member, Rosslyn Bosnar said the exhibition is strong considering the group are all amateur and hobby painters.

“Our 93-year-old artist has a very nice little picture up of an elderly Aboriginal man that she’s done in pastel. She’s quite serious about her art.

“We have a couple of new artists, and it’s the first time they’ve ever hung anything in a public exhibition, so they’re very excited about that,” Ms Bosnar said.

The group has united once a week for the last two decades simply for friendship and fun.

“There’s no teaching, it was more put together as a community social group. We’ve got a lot of very dedicated artists that paint continuously nearly every day,” Ms Bosnar said.

“We’re a more mature age group. The majority of attendees are well into their 70s, plus. We’ve got some new ladies that have just come in, in their late 50s. The lady who’s 93, she comes every week and paints.”

All mediums are explored, from acrylic to oil painting, water colour and pencil work.

“I do alcohol ink or whatever I feel like on the day. Everybody brings their own particular medium and artwork with them,” Ms Bosnar said.
