A WEBINAR set for next month will seek to unpack the idea of masculinity with Golden Plains residents.

Run by the municipality, Unpacking the Man Box workshop is a free event with a goal of boosting health, equality, and respect in the community and improving male outcomes, tackling toxic masculinity, and sharing skills to improve expectations of men.

The free event is facilitated by Jesuit Social Services and invites men to take part, as well as those with men in their lives at home, in the workplace or in their friendship group.

“Council is excited to have engaged Jesuit Social Services to deliver this program to empower residents in Golden Plains in creating change, supporting wellbeing, and promoting respect and equality,” said a Golden Plains Shire spokesperson.

“During the webinar, there will be discussions around what masculinity is, understanding the pressures on young men within our community, understanding whether young men agree with the findings of the Man Box report, and understanding the influence, if any, that agreeing with these rules has on the lives of young men and the people around them.”

Unpacking the Man Box has been funded by VicHealth, and is based on research from Queensland University of Technology Associate Professor Dr Michael Flood.

The session will run for about 50 minutes, and will be able to be accessed online, or in person at the Golden Plains Civic Centre.

Registrations are essential by visiting the municipal website or searching ‘Golden Plains Shire Unpacking the Man Box Workshop Series.’
