Footy fever is set to hit Melbourne this week, and V/Line is rolling out extra services to help Cats and Lions fans get to the action.

For Friday’s Grand Final Parade, trains will depart Waurn Ponds at 7.47am and 8.05am, with return services leaving Southern Cross at 2.42pm and 3.02pm.

On Grand Final Day itself, an additional service will depart South Geelong at 8.37am, while Waurn Ponds passengers can hop aboard extra services at 9.51am and 10.31am. After the final siren, footy‑goers can head home on added trains from Southern Cross at 6.00pm, 6.20pm and 9.30pm.

These services come on top of the regular 20‑minute frequency on the Geelong Line ramps up, giving fans more options to avoid the stress of traffic and parking.

V/Line has urged passengers to plan ahead and allow plenty of time to soak up the pre‑match atmosphere in the city.

A spokesperson said fans travelling from regional Victoria can connect seamlessly with Metro Trains for the final leg to the MCG.

“Passengers can travel between Southern Cross and the MCG on a Metro service to either Jolimont or Richmond stations,” the spokesperson said.

Full service details and travel information are available on the V/Line website’s dedicated footy page.
