Veteran Roos to reunite
MEMBERS of the Teesdale Cricket Club will host an annual evening of acknowledgement this Saturday, 21 January.
Following a match against Lethbridge in the morning, the club’s past players and sponsors day will take place from 2pm at the Don Wallace Reserve.
President, Leigh Campbell, said it will be a fun, casual afternoon of reminiscing.
“It’s always a challenge keeping in touch with our old players so this is always a great way to get old faces back to the club,” he said.
“We’ll have players from as far back as the early 1980s right through to now.”
“There’ll be some smaller raffles running throughout the day with small prizes like club merch and meat packs.”
Established in 1893, the Roos currently have more than 40 senior members, in excess of 30 social members and about 50 juniors forming four sides.
The past players event averages between 30 and 50 people, and Mr Campbell said it’s a good opportunity to celebrate their alumni and 13 sponsors for their contributions.
“It’s our way of showing our appreciation to them because if it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t even have a club today,” he said.
“It’s important for everyone to be able to get together and relive their past heroics. Of course, the stories get longer and more elaborate with each year.
“We’ve got a pretty rich history of premierships and we pride ourselves on being a family-driven club so it’s been fantastic to see these different generations on the day.
“I’m a second-generation Campbell with the club and now my kids are playing so that’s three generations alone.”
The event’s $25 entry fee includes drinks and food.
