VOLUNTEER groups in the Golden Plains Shire are being recognised through daily social media posts as part of National Volunteer Week, which runs until Sunday.
Golden Plains Shire Council is also hosting a photographic Volunteers in Action Exhibition at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre before moving it to Smythesdale later in the year.
Photos in the exhibition showcase volunteers contributing to their local communities and were taken by Golden Plains youth volunteers.
Last week, acting mayor Cr Helena Kirby said National Volunteer Week is a fantastic opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions of local volunteers.
“The Volunteers in Action Exhibition aims to capture moments that go unnoticed and highlight the everyday, helping the community gain new appreciation for the contributions volunteers make to Golden Plains Shire,” Cr Kirby said.
“The photographs in the exhibition were captured by youth volunteers who went out and visited volunteers in their communities, doing what they love.

“This intergenerational project has provided wonderful opportunities for all, and it was wonderful for the young volunteers to have the chance to meet other volunteers and see them in action.”
The young photographers who took most of the pictures were Kenzie Dawber and Declan Davidson.
Kenzie also volunteers with the Shire’s Youth Activation Committee, a leadership group dedicated to advocating on behalf of young Golden Plains people.
Declan is also a member of the committee.
The exhibition will be on show at The Well in Smythesdale, along with the Golden Plains Civic Centre in Bannockburn, later this year.
National Volunteer Week began on 19 May, and this year has the theme of ‘Connecting Communities’.
The Shire has social media accounts on Facebook, X and Instagram.
