Wine fundraiser backs bike rack plan
A SHIRE school is giving parents the opportunity to support their children while enjoying a glass of wine at the same time.
Inverleigh Primary is collaborating with Austin’s Wines and 6ft6 Wines to raise funds for new school equipment.
People will be able to purchase a case of wine with $30 from each order going to the school.
Principal, Steven Trotter, said the effort provides an alternative to in-person fundraising and has many benefits for the community.
“Fundraising’s been quite difficult over the last few years because we haven’t been able to run any on-site,” he said.
“With this, it’s all being delivered to people’s door so it’s still raising money without that in-person engagement.
“There’s also that double role in supporting both the school and local businesses that we know have been struggling as well.”
The funds will go towards either new bike racks or a bike shelter, at an estimated cost of over $15,000.
The school’s parents’ and friends’ committee came up with the idea and member Kloe Spiller-Woods said the upgrades are an urgent requirement.
“We’ve got a large population of students that ride to school and the current setup is just out in the open,” she said.
“There’s no shelter for them. The bike racks are quite old and they don’t fit the larger tyres from newer bikes.
“We’re also looking into a rain tank to feed into our gardens that the students maintain so there’s two projects that this can go towards.”
