WOMEN and girls are invited to get into the swing of golf from next month at the Bannockburn Golf Club.

The Club is running a five-week Get into Golf program for beginners, which will run each Tuesday morning, 10am to 11am, from 22 February until 22 March.

BCG golf development sub-committee member Pam Graham said participating women and girls will learn all the basics of the sport so they can comfortably play a game.

“They will become familiar with the feel of the club and how to hold it, and then different aspects of golf, driving, putting, and chipping,” she said.

“The driving force behind this program is to get women and girls into the sport. We need more ladies at the club, so if we gain more lady members after the program, that will be a bonus.

“It is a fun, accessible and social sport you can play well into your 80s and 90s. We’re cost-effective for ladies who are working and raising a family.”

Currently the Club has a sand-scrape course with fairways “comparative to bigger courses” in the Geelong region.

But with the support of an anonymous benefactor, the Club is changing the full 18 holes to greens – nine holes at a time – and this is expected to be completed by 2024.

“Come along and be a part of history as we convert to greens. It’s a pretty little course and we’re quite proud of it,” Ms Graham said.

“Our Club is like a big family really, and the course is a hidden gem in the country. So many people drive past and don’t realise it’s there.

“We hope with the greens coming that new members will stay.”

All equipment will be provided. Contact 0423 538 041 to make an enquiry, or visit golf.org.au/getintogolf to register.
