GOLDEN Plains Shire Council and Women with Disabilities Victoria will present a free prevention of violence against women with disabilities workshop later this month.

The workshop will be held via Zoom on Wednesday 14 May from 6pm until 7pm and will be facilitated by individuals with lived experience.

It will explore concepts such as disability and ableism, the prevalence of violence against women and gender-diverse individuals with disabilities, and actions to prevent violence.

“Council is proud to present this workshop in partnership with Women with Disabilities Victoria to the community which will discuss the intersection of disability, ableism and gender-based violence,” mayor Cr Sarah Hayden said.

“These are important topics that impact many people in our community.

“I encourage you to bring your family and friends along to this virtual session and hear from individuals with lived experience who will provide an insight into the experiences of women and gender-diverse people with disabilities.”
