Workshops to focus on sustainable gardens
GREEN thumbs are being invited to take part in a series of sustainability and self-sufficiency workshops organised by Golden Plains Shire staff.
The sessions, beginning at the end of April, are facilitated by horticulturist Craig Castree and bring together the knowledge learned through the edible gardens webinars.
The aim of the workshops are to help participants elevate their gardening skills to the next level.
The first session will be held Sunday 27 April in Dereel, there will be a session on Saturday 25 May in Smythesdale and two held in Bannockburn on Saturday 4 May and Sunday 29 June.
For those who cannot attend in person, a zoom online workshop will be on Wednesday 5 June.
Topics covered in the workshops will include improving soil health, innovative gardening methods, how to decrease running costs, harvesting, and preserving.
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the sessions are a chance to learn new skills.
“Whether you’re new to edible gardens or a previous webinar attendee, these workshops are a fantastic opportunity to elevate your gardening abilities and create the necessary skills to nurture your garden,” he said.
“We look forward to welcoming back Craig and his wealth of knowledge in the food and gardening sector as we continue to deliver this insightful and highly successful program for our local community.”
