LIVE beatdowns are set to burst back into the region with the return of the MXW pro wrestling circuit.

With about 20 competitors across seven matches, the company is set to host their second Ballarat-based event of the year called Scrap to the Future.

MXW’s head promoter Ash Loft said the all-ages event will be an exciting evening of heated rivalry.

“Charlie Rose won our MXW Championship in March during our previous Ballarat show, Golden Opportunity,” he said. “Now she’s defending the title against Ritchie Taylor who’s a veteran wrestler in Australia.

“There’s also Joel Bateman and Ace Shack, they had a bit of a scrap last time and they’ll be fighting it out in a street fight. There’ll be lots of weapons and the usual rules won’t apply.

“There’s a lot of mix between different styles of wrestling. There’ll be a street fight, heavyweights, high-flying. There’ll be something for everybody.”

Golden Opportunity served as MXW’s inaugural championship, and Mr Loft said it highlighted an appetite for more wrestling in Ballarat.

“It was probably the best crowd we’ve ever had,” he said. “The fans were so loud and getting involved.

“We were at the Eureka Hall and we were sold out and had to turn people away. We can fit an extra hundred people into the bigger venue this time.

“This is a lot of fun and something you’re not used to seeing in towns like Ballarat. Even if you’re not a wrestling fan, there’ll be something to shock you, make you laugh, something to get out of it.”

Scrap to the Future is set to take place from 6.30pm on Saturday, 13 May at the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute.

Tickets range from $22.49 to $54.26 and can be booked at bit.ly/3ntPLJ3.
