THE Golden Plains Shire Youth Hub is closed until Thursday 24 July for maintenance works due to a leaking roof.

All regular weekly programming will be moved to the Bannockburn Cultural Centre during this time.

“Recent heavy rainfall has led to a leak in the roof of the Golden Plains Youth Hub and the closure is necessary to allow for repairs and ensure the safety of Hub users,” a Golden Plains Shire spokesperson said.

“The hub will be closed for approximately four weeks to accommodate repairs, and council is utilising alternate venues to host scheduled youth activities during this time.”

The Youth Hub opened in 2022 and is a dedicated space for young people aged 12 to 25 across the Shire.

Programs at the hub are attended by about 30 young people across four nights a week, as well as a further 10 people through an external organisation.

“The hub provides a purpose-built inclusive space for young people to engage in structured programs such as the Youth Activation Committee youth leadership program and the Amplify program (formerly FReeZA),” the spokesperson said.

“It also offers a range of drop-in programs such as art, garden to plate cooking, and games, and each program is designed to develop real-life skills and build social connections in a safe place.”
