Youth space gets State support
PLANS to develop a youth play space in the region have received a boost following an announcement of money from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
Nearly $1.5 million is set to go towards overhauling the Yerram Yaluk Bun Play Space at Inverleigh from the $50 million statewide grant scheme.
The project aims to convert the facility into a youth recreational site with a new skate park, bike track, basketball courts, shelter, and seating.
The project was shaped by the community with consultation led by the Inverleigh Progress Association, and Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle, said it’s great to see the suggestions becoming a reality.
“I am so pleased that the ideas of the Inverleigh community can now come to life with the creation of this special space,” she said.
“The Active Youth Space will transform our community and I can’t wait to see a couple of slam dunks and ollies once works are finished!”
The Growing Suburbs Fund is aimed at helping per-urban local governments deliver community facilities like parks, hubs and recreation centres.
The funding boost adds to $700,000 in Federal cash alongside $150,000 from the municipality.
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the overhauled youth space will help with Inverleigh’s increasing population.
“Inverleigh is one of the Shire’s fastest growing communities and council is pleased to be able to deliver a purpose-built space for young people in Inverleigh and surrounding towns,” he said.
“Council thanks the Victorian Government for their significant contribution of $1.48 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, which alongside $700,000 from the Australian Government and $150,000 from council, will fully fund this project.”
