GUESTS from Zonta Clubs around Victoria and New South Wales gathered in the gracious surroundings of the Grand Dining Room of Craig’s Royal Hotel recently to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Zonta Club of Ballarat.

Welcomed by President Donna Campbell and City of Ballarat Mayor Cr. Samantha McIntosh, all were delighted to receive a message of congratulations from Zonta’s International President, Susanne von Bassewitz. A special toast to Zonta International and to the Club was offered by Governor Jane Adornetto from Geelong.

The Club was chartered on United Nations Day, 24 October 1978. The Charter Dinner was held in the same room, in the presence of guests from Canada, New Zealand and the United States of America.

Past presidents and members were amongst those enjoying the High Tea and a subsequent tour of the historic hotel.

Highlights of the afternoon were the introduction of one of Ballarat’s Great Women, Janet Dore, and the presentation by Charter President Val Sarah and Area 4 Director Catherine Taylor of the story of the Club 1978 to 2018 and the years in between, celebrating 40 years of friendships forged, community partnerships created, and delivery of service and advocacy locally and internationally.

As a member club of Zonta International, local members are joining almost 30,000 Zontians in 63 countries worldwide planning celebrations for the centennial anniversary of Zonta International next year, from inception in 1919 to the Founders’ Day on November 8 in 2019.
