A home of many firsts for young family
The exciting next steps for new homeowners who have built their dream home in Winterfield
FOR Ballarat local and soon-to-be first-time mum, Justine Eagle’s decision to build her dream home from the ground up meant having the opportunity to make it her own, one step (and design detail) at a time.
Ms Eagle moved into the house she built in Winterfield at the beginning of September, after purchasing a block of land in the master-planned community just five months ago.
Living with Ms Eagle in her home in Winterfield are her two fur babies (Ned and Charlie), her partner Jeromy, and what they are currently calling “the bump”, who is due to arrive in late-December. Justine and Jeromy are hoping for their new little addition to be around in time to celebrate their first Christmas with them in their brand new home.
“I’m most excited for Christmas Day. It’s my favourite time of the year, and fingers crossed our new addition has joined us earth-side by then to make it even more special,” Ms Eagle said.
In the meantime, she’s has been busy making her brand new house a home for her growing family. Ms Eagle always had a clear vision of how she wanted to decorate her future home, and her home in Winterfield is no different.
While Langdon Builders was busy constructing the dream home she designed for herself, Ms Eagle was busy finding provincial and farmhouse-style furniture with mixed textures and neutral colours to decorate with, citing Pinterest as a reliable source for inspiration.
In addition to the interior, choosing the exterior treatment was something that came easy for Ms Eagle. She took the opportunity to select one of six front garden designs, curated exclusively for Winterfield residents by horticulturalist, Wes Fleming from Flemings Nurseries. Justine will have this installed for free as part of a special offer to all Winterfield homeowners.
With easy upkeep and durability being major factors of her front garden design choice, Ms Eagle selected the Abelia design, which is centred around bluestone pavers leading through a mirrored garden – a great design for those who appreciate low maintenance, according to Mr Fleming.
Ms Eagle says that although it’s her first time going through this process, she hasn’t experienced any challenges, attributing this to a lot of research and not being afraid to ask a lot of questions.
When asked if she has any regrets about making the decision to build instead of buy, Ms Eagle said, “I can’t think of anything I would do differently. Building my dream home has given me the flexibility to make it my own. I would definitely do it all over again.”
