Christmas is an invitation to get creative with the styling in your home. Sticking to the traditional red, green and gold tacky decorations is not the only option!

Organic Christmas styling draws soft neutral palettes from nature.

THERE are plenty of Christmas styling themes that can blend in with your existing interiors, style and taste, and create a personalized, refined festive look that’s uniquely yours.

“There’s nothing like decorating your home to get you in the Christmas spirit, and no matter what your interior style, there’s a Christmas theme for everyone,” said Metricon’s Senior Interior Designer, Jacinta Evans.

“Any of these themes can be achieved on a budget if you know where to shop and feel like getting a little crafty.”

Ms Evans’ has three festive styling suggestions:

Elegant Christmas Styling – This style brings a sophistication to your festive season. Pair metallics, such as rose gold and silver, with one contrasting colour, perhaps black or navy.

Layer rich textures in clusters on your tree, dining table and around the house. Unravel a wreath and wind it down a banister or across the mantel of a fireplace or heater.

Dot lots of candles and lights around your home. Don’t be afraid to go over the top on your Christmas table.

Organic Christmas Styling – This style requires a soft neutral palette and draws plenty of inspiration from nature. Use lots of wooden and paper craft with pastels such as yellows, pinks and mints.

Introduce texture such as marble, timber and concrete to offer a nice contrast to the softness. Incorporate lush green wreaths and pinecones, and maybe even opt for a blonde timber tree rather than a traditional green fir or pine.

Bright colours are the hallmark of a whimsical Christmas style.

Whimsical Christmas Styling – If you’re happy to get the kids involved in styling and aren’t too neurotic about everything matching, this is the theme for you!

Start with one bright focal colour, blue or pink perhaps, and then help the kids choose other colours that work with that tone. Find plenty of fun decorations and cluster them on side tables.

Use the same colours for your present wrapping and Christmas craft. Choosing one particular object as your central focus, such as a cheeky elf, to appear at different points throughout your home can work well.
