Still going strong after 20 years in real estate

Ballarat real estate agent Geoff Sewell has notched up 20 years in the industry.

DIRECTOR of Geoff Sewell Real Estate, trading as gsre, Geoff has personally accumulated over 1200 property sales in that time. Selling both country and residential properties from Meredith to Avoca as well as Ballarat and surrounding areas.

Geoff has noted many changes to the industry including the introduction of out of town owned franchise agencies and the enormous impact the internet has on real estate worldwide.

“When I first started in real estate, I was lucky to be involved in a large agency which has books and books of buyers to work with but now it has all changed the small agents share the same buyers all coming from the internet,” said Geoff.

In his first year in the industry Geoff sold 122 properties in the Ballarat area.

That effort resulted in Geoff being a finalist in the Real Estate Institute of Victoria awards for excellence in real estate. Two years later he was again a finalist, this time in the achiever awards category.

Geoff believes the two most important ingredients a successful real estate agent needs is empathy toward clients and big ears in preference to a big mouth.

“Just listen to your client’s needs and wants,” he said.
