Athlete’s Foot Cup heads into finals
THE semi-final line-up has been decided for the Ballarat Netball Association’s Athlete’s Foot Cup.
By a quirk of the fixture, the teams who met during Tuesday night’s final minor round will play again.
Top team Dela Oscar’s was given a taste of Wendouree’s capabilities during one of the best games of the season.
Wendouree led for the first half and trailed by just one goal at the final change.
The defensive combination of Tara Ford and Topsy Milera led the way, piling pressure onto the Dela Oscar’s shooters.
With Catherine Chibnall playing the entire game at centre for the first time this season, Wendouree looked a more settled team.
But in the final quarter the Dela showed their class.
Emma Farrell took control at goal attack, and with Lydia Jordan switching to shooter, they looked a different unit.
Dela Oscar’s won the game by 11, but they’ve been put on notice to expect a tough semi-final.
In the second game Eureka dished out an extraordinary performance against Brown Hill, taking charge early and not letting up from there.
Shooters Maddy Selmon and Lauren Jew were joined by Jordan McCarthy and the trio proved unstoppable.
Brown Hill found itself in the unfamiliar position of being down by 20 at the half.
Things didn’t improve until the fourth quarter when the form almost completely reversed.
It was too late for Brown Hill to salvage the game, but it has served notice that it’s ready to put in a much better performance in next week’s semi-final.
