Ballarat v Sebastopol

Match of the round in the McDonalds Ballarat Football Netball League with third hosting second on the second weekend of an elongated round nine.

There’s a real chance fans of the competition get to see who Melton’s real challenger for season 2022 is.

The Swans will regain Josh Gibson who was out last outing with a hamstring complaint, whereas the Burra will be hopeful to recall midfielder Daniel Widgery who has missed the entire season thus far through injury.

Conditions will play a big factor with Burra naturally a lot taller than the Swannies but their pace on the outside and slingshot ball movement could be too hot to handle.

Prediction: Ballarat by under a goal.

East Point v Darley

Both sides are looking to get back onto the winners list as East Point host the Darley Devils in another top six matchup.

The Kangas will be relying on Jordan Johnston yet again with their star man, booting 27 goals in seven games so far and he’ll see an undermanned back six at Darley as a real opportunity to add to that tally.

At the other end the Devils have their own spearhead in form in Nick Rodda who has booted 25 goals this season, and with Brett Bewley in the midfield, Devils fans know on their day they are a chance against any opposition.

Prediction: East Point by 24 points.

Lake Wendouree v Melton South

From one end of the ladder we now look at the other, with the Lakers eyeing this weekend as a real opportunity to secure their second victory of the season when they host the Panthers.

Melton South’s form has been inconsistent to say the least with their best footy matching most sides in the competition and their worst utterly diabolical.

Star man Dylan Conway will be touch and go after suffering a concussion in the third term last time out against Redan with vice-captain Jake Thornton-Gielen also expected to miss through injury.

This may swing the balance of play enough into the favour for the home side, sprinkle in the Panthers horrible record in the City of Ballarat and it looks like an upset is on the cards, ladies and gentleman.

Prediction: Lake Wendouree in an upset.

Redan v North Ballarat

Finals footy is up for grabs here as the Lions know they have claim a scalp to sneak into September as they host the wounded Roosters.

No Thomas Hotchin due to an ACL, no Elliott Lamb, VFL-duties for their other forwards North Ballarat despite not having the first choice continue to find a way to impress and score in the league.

Harry Loader was sent from defence forward last time out as Brendan MaCarthy continues to swing the magnets around cover missing players.

Redan held firm over the Panthers away, but it is their home form that has been concerning with no win at City Oval yet thus far.

Lachie George looks back at his best and with the return of Liam Hoy in recent weeks has giving the superstar the freedom to play bigger midfield minutes and make Redan more of a force to be reckoned with.

Prediction: North Ballarat in a nail bitter.
