Ballan v Clunes

AFTER one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Central Highlands Football League, remarkably Clunes may enter favourites in this round two tussle with the Blues.

Nic Clarke was the star of the show with a best on ground performance that included five majors and will be the key to Magpies chances in this one.

Prediction: Clunes make it 2-0.

Beaufort v Waubra

Match of the round as the 2018 premiers host the 2019 premiers in a match-up pundits expect that could go either way.

The Crows were lucky enough to hold off a gallant Carngham-Linton under lights whereas the ‘Roos were also challenged by Dunnstown but found a way to scrap across the line.

Lincoln Barnes continues to be one of the best ball magnets in the entire competition and his partnership with Geordie Lukich will be the catalyst in the 2019 flag holders keeping their perfect record intact.

Prediction: Waubra by 18 points.

Buninyong v Springbank

Things don’t get any easier for the Tigers this week after narrowly going down to Newlyn in round 1 as they now travel to Buninyong to take on a side that many will consider flag favourites.

Springbank were unable to withhold Marcus Darmody last week, with the super boot bagging another 10 majors in the 14-point win.

The Bombers on the other hand were sole point winners against Bungaree with speedsters Geoff Lovett and Dom Sliwa leading the way in the debuts for the club.

Prediction: Buninyong in a tight one.

Creswick v Learmonth

It is no secret that the Wickers were embarrassed this past weekend and coach Ryan Knowles will demand a much better performance when they host Learmonth this Saturday.

The Lakies also went down in round one action, coughing up a three quarter point leader to Rokewood-Corindhap.

James Pratt was clearly best on ground against the ‘Hoppers with three goals and will fancy his chances to make it two in two.

Prediction: Learmonth comfortably.

Dunnstown v Skipton

The Emus and the Towners are two both failed to get wins on the opening day of the season.

Both sides also have finals aspirations and as Dunnstown found out last year it is extremely hard to sneak into the eight if you lose your first couple of games.

Spearhead Rhys Monument was held to two goals in his Skipton debut since jumping across from East Point in the Ballarat Football Netball League in the off season and coach, Sam Willian, will be hoping he is the answer in this one.

Prediction: Skipton in a flip of the coin.

Gordon v Bungaree

Do you dare to dream Eagles fans? Many pundits think so after an empathic 68-point victory in round one.

Adam Toohey started his season off in fine fashion with five goals with Ethan Crackle also booting a couple of majors in a best on ground performance.

The Demons are a dangerous side, however running into firstly Buninyong and then Gordon is arguably the worse way to start the season.

Prediction: Gordon by 12 points.

Hepburn v Carngham Linton

After 2020 we didn’t think football could get any stranger but then fans were saddened to hear the match between Hepburn and Daylesford was called off due to ex-AFL footballer, Josh Cowan, horrifically breaking his leg and this incident caused the game to be abandoned.

Both sides shared the points whereas the Saints almost pulled off an upset victory over the much more fancied Beaufort.

The last time these sides met in 2019 it was the ‘Burra by over 10 goals and many expect unfortunately despite making great inroads in round one footy, that this will be a similar result.

Prediction: Hepburn by 60 points.

Rokewood-Corindhap v Daylesford

Despite both sides being ‘technically’ undefeated in season 2021, don’t expect this one to be a close one with the ‘Hoppers heavy favourites as they host the Bulldogs this Saturday afternoon.

Laityn Withers was his sides best with three goals in the win and the recruitment of ex-AFL footballer Cameron Richardson seems to be working wonders for Rokewood.

Prediction: Rokewood-Corindhap in matter of how much.
