Eagle fledgelings set to go to net
GORDON Netball Club is looking to fill its junior netball teams with the return of their annual NetSetGo program.
Sessions are scheduled to start at Gordon Recreation Reserve in late April, and will continue until Friday, 1 July, with the aim of getting young girls aged five to 10 interested in netball.
Over 10 kids are registered, and senior netball delegate Rhonda Best said this year’s program looks to have a wide range of participants.
“Our numbers were good last year but I think people were unsure about doing too many activities around that time,” she said.
“Hopefully we’ll get a few more in so we can really get going before the season starts. It seems like it’ll definitely be a bigger program this year.”
Each week will comprise a different focus on the fundamentals of netball, with attendees being grouped into ages five and six, seven and eight, and nine and 10.
Best said the sessions maintain a participatory focus with the aim of getting kids interested in the sport.
“Our main goal is to get kids out there and to give it a go and experience netball in a relaxed, non-competitive environment to start with,” she said.
“That can be quite daunting for some kids, turning up to a fully-fledged competition where they’re expected to know the rules on everything from day one”
Sessions will take place weekly on Fridays from 5pm to 6pm, and check out the Gordon FNC Facebook page for more info.
