Fourth round of winter racing
SUNDAY, 21 July was a perfect winter day for bike racing. Not too cold, dry roads and sunshine.
Race 5 of Eureka Cycling Club’s Europa Cafe & Hopscotch Cafe Winter Aggregate Race Series saw graded divisions race three laps of a 17.5km circuit. The points race format provided plenty of sprint action as riders contested for points at the end of each lap.
Kevin Lee proved too fast in Division 4. A close battle in Division 3 saw Brian Ure win on the last sprint, while Scott Keating provided a masterclass in sprinting in Division 2, winning each lap.
The large Division 1 field had an enthralling battle of tactics and high speed, however Jason Hendry was too powerful.
Next weekend the club contest the GP Doug Garley. The short 43km race includes dirt sections and is a classic event on the Eureka Cycling race calendar.
