MEMBERS of Buninyong Tennis Club are inviting the community onto their courts to give the sport a try as part of their Fast 4 Tennis initiative.

With the first session taking place this evening, the five-week program will see games of social tennis for a small fee.

Club president Rohan Worland said the initiative is about broadening the appeal of tennis for the community.

“It’s to promote tennis in the local community and an opportunity for them to come down and give it a go whether that’s junior, senior, or in between,” he said.

“It’s a social competition to encourage playing not just for the wins. The fast four format is where you play to the first four games and there’s no advantages.

“It’s a quicker format introduced around the world a few years ago to make tennis a bit more accessible.”

Mr Worland said the Fast 4 Tennis program is building on a previous initiative from earlier this year.

“We started this first around February, March during our junior season to try and build that community spirit and get parents and grandparents involved,” he said.

“It was really successful and we want to continue that enthusiasm. We’re hoping to broaden it with other clubs and even players who aren’t club members will join.”

A juniors-focused group, Buninyong Tennis Club is made up of more than 40 young players.

Each session will take place on Friday nights from 6pm to 8pm at the Buninyong Tennis Association courts at Forest Street with participation costing $5 per person.

Attendees are welcome to take part in as many of the limited sessions as they want to, with the final one to occur on 31 May.
