THE first round of the Australian Motor Racing Series’ APRA/MRF State Championship was recently won by young competitor, Josh Gay.

Arriving at Winton Motor Raceway with new controlled tyres, an electric water pump, power steering and brakes, and suspension alterations to his Nissan N14 Pulsar, the Ballarat Light Car Club racer had five ten lap races over the weekend.

Receiving one first and four second places, Gay was pleased with the part changes, achieving a personal best lap time of one minute, 42 seconds, beating his 2019 self by just over one second.

“It felt amazing having my first win in the series. I’m the youngest driver, so it was a great achievement to win the whole round,” he said.

“Even though I’m young, I’ve definitely got the ability and skills to beat some of the more experienced and older guys. Some of them have five or six years in the category so it’s great to keep up, and beat them.”

Gay will race at Phillip Island in May.

“It’s a fast and open track, one of the most dangerous tracks in Australia. You need to be courageous. I’ll go as hard as I can to come home with another good result,” he said.

“Our sponsors, Pete Corcoran at Auto Projects, Mark Dawe from Morry Performance, Doherty and Clark Tyres, and Craig Signs all help to make the car perform a lot better on the track.”
