Guiding group formed for young players
MEMBERS of one of the region’s cricket clubs are looking to get ahead this coming season with the establishment of a new juniors committee.
Announced last week, the Ballarat-Redan Cricket Club’s new group is made up of five core members and spearheaded by joint coordinators Jason Yean and Andrew Tongue.
Yean, who is also the junior president, said the club has needed organised body for their younger players for a while.
“We’ve been a little bit disorganised for the last couple years,” he said. “We really needed to get people in roles to help look after what we’ve got and to help it grow.
“Before this, Paul Hayes was our junior coordinator and did a great job but never had a lot of help. It’d always be you’d be chasing your team managers, your coaches, your scorers.
“Our set roles are to make it easier for people to know where to go to with each person.”
As well as Yean’s role of president, the committee also features coordinators for the girls’ and boys’ teams as well as roles in marketing and administration.
With a fleet of coaches also in place and a season launch set for early September, Yean said the club is aiming to be better prepared than ever before
“We’re a bit ahead of the game this season,” he said. “Having coaches set this early is a bit unheard of but we’ve got the right people for the right jobs.
“The next thing is pre-season training and hopefully by then we’ll have our teams and squads selected.”
Mr Yean said parents have already offered to assist the committee.
“We’ve had four, five messages, even some emails, so it’s been a real positive response,” he said.
“We’re hoping each person within their role will have some parents to help in that area.”
