INVA Run Club is back, encouraging runners of all abilities to get their weekends off to a flying start, with bakery treats afterwards entirely optional.

Started by local couple Daniel and Bree Midolo last year, the Saturday morning running club resumed for the season at Inverleigh last Saturday 1 November, offering runners the choice of two different distances.

The Midolos are both Inverleigh Football Netball Club members and Mr Midolo said that when they initiated the club last year it was well received.

“We had over 50 different people attend, usually anywhere from ten to 20 people each run, last year and we’re hoping to be bigger and better this year,” Mr Midolo said.

“We got it fired up at the start of pre-season training last year. It’s more of a pre-season social running club. We do it during pre-season when the weather’s nice. If you have a few numbers it always gives a bit more motivation.

“We split up into two groups. I play cricket in the afternoon so I’ll take the shorter distance covering three kilometres to 4.5 kilometres and Bree takes the longer group varying from 5.5 kilometres to seven kilometres.

“We’re not there to set records. It’s purely just for runners of all abilities and it’s just a nice start to Saturday morning, have a run, have coffee after.

“I’m not the most motivated to get up and go for a run but if you’ve got a little treat at the end of it, it’s always worthwhile.”

Mr Midolo said the runs are family-friendly and pooches on leads are also welcome to participate.

Runners meet at the Inverleigh Skate Park at 8am on Saturdays with any weekly updates issued via the football-netball club’s socials as required.

“Our usual running routes takes runners along the river and around town,” Mr Midolo said.

“We’re going to try to mix it up a little bit but generally we’ll run along the river because there are some great little running tracks.

“The idea is we will now run it through until probably the last Saturday before Christmas then we will break up over the New Year period and then probably look to start it up again in January.”
