Juniors set to take to the net
MEMBERS of the Ballarat Bulldogs Football Netball Club will soon hold the club’s first NetSetGo program in an effort to boost club numbers.
The eight-week program, which will run weekly from Wednesday 7 February, is being geared towards children seven and 10 years old.
Club secretary and football manager Lexie Hardman said the sessions are a fun way to introduce children to netball.
“It’s to give local kids the opportunity to come down, learn some netball skills, and make friends,” she said.
“The plan is to hopefully get them into the netball program now and hopefully they stick around the club so we can be bigger and better.”
“We’ll have our netball coach Kelsey Shaw going through modified drills with the kids to have fun with.”
With 15 netball players currently with the club, Ms Hardman said their program has been steadily growing.
“Especially in the last 12 months, our all-abilities players have gone from playing more or less one game a year to four or five and doing round robins in regional towns,” she said.
“We’re hoping to grow with two home carnival games this year. Most of the time we enough netball players for two teams and they’re aged anywhere from 14 to 40.”
Each NetSetGo session will run from 5pm to 6pm at Russell Square.
Participants will need to register with Netball Victoria for a $100 fee, which includes a t-shirt and netball, to take part in the program.
