Kanga’s crumble as Devil’s dare to dream

August 21, 2019 BY

AFTER trailing by 34 points at quarter time, Darley has pulled off a remarkable turnaround to come from behind to defeat East Point on Saturday in the McDonald’s Ballarat Football League at Darley Park, winning 14.10 (94) to 11.14 (80).

Jake Edwards stared up forward with four crucial goals, while Luther Baker continued on his merry way in the midfield, highlighting why many pundits think he is the most improved player in the entire competition.

Darley lost important defender Trent Angwin after his left ankle got trapped underneath himself in the opening minutes of the game, and while it appears he’s avoided all serious damage, he will be unlikely to play against the Ballarat Swans in the final round.

Currently third place on the ladder with a week to go, Devil’s coach Heath Scotland said his side is really looking forward to the challenge in coming weeks.

“It was really important and there was a lot on the line in this one and I suppose the biggest thing for me as a player, and more importantly a coach, is that belief going in and we have shown glimpses of our best form and I do strongly believe our best is good enough to win it.” Scotland said.

Despite the defeat, East Point has secured the minor premiership following Redan’s shock loss to Lake Wendouree meaning that even with the bye next week the Kangas will finish on top.

It was déjà vu for the Kangaroos as a month ago they had a similar fade out against the Melton Bloods. Spearhead Brad Whittaker failed to finish on Saturday due to injury and questions have to be seriously asked East Point are capable of going back-to-back, despite finishing on top of the ladder in the Ballarat Football League.
