FROM finals hopefuls, to premiership contenders, Sebastopol has stormed up to second place on the ladder in the McDonalds Ballarat Football League with a convincing 39-point victory over Darley at Marty Busch Reserve, victorious 13.12 (90) to 6.15 (51).

The Burra unleashed a final quarter onslaught, with six unanswered goals changing a game that was level at three quarter time to one that illustrates how far this young football group has come over the past two seasons under coach Leigh Hutchinson.

“Wins of this calibre are really exciting for this group and look we still have quite a good few players out and to stretch our depth a little bit and go out and perform like that is really good for the club,” Hutchinson said post game.

Sebas had ten different goal kickers for the afternoon with spearhead Michael Powell leading the way with three majors and capturing the sort of form that once had the high-flyer on a VFL list.

“He was exceptional today. I asked him to run a lot more today and provide a bit of tackling pressure which wasn’t the highlight but just his speed was phenomenal and it’s good to put the game on someone who just steps up that little more and just shows to everyone that he has got it,” Hutchinson said.

Toby Thoolen and Tony Lockyer were also inspirational in the victory, with Thoolen providing feats of magic that most ruckman are incapable of doing, while Lockyer played one of the best final quarters of footy seen in recent memory to drag his side across the line.

Darley have now had back-to-back losses with a bye in-between to see them slip to third, prompting a closed room post game from coach, Heath Scotland.

The Devils have the struggling Panthers next week which should see the club regain second spot with a big percentage win on the cards, while the in-form Kookaburras get to really celebrate this one as they head into a bye round.
