Local record tumbles
A NEARLY forty-year-old record at Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre was broken recently.
Sprinter Cooper Sherman ran a 21.24 over 200-meters, breaking a time set by Michael Benoit in 1984.
The 17-year-old Sherman competes for Ballarat Harriers Athletics Club and his record-breaking run was good enough to further punch his ticket to the Australian Track and Field Championships in April,
The time also a qualifying marker for the World Juniors.
Sherman is having a strong season so far, having also recoded a World Junior qualifying time for the 400 meters in Bendigo, stopping the clock at 47.20 over the distance.
He also claimed three gold medals in the recent Victorian Country Championships win the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter events in the under 20s.
