The Ballarat FNL preliminary final headlines a massive weekend of footy, with Darley already through to the decider and Melton meeting Sunbury for the right to join them. Meanwhile, Central Highlands FNL crowns its 2025 premier on Sunday at Mars Stadium. Full fixtures and results can be found at Times Footy.

Ballarat: Melton faces Sunbury in prelim showdown

Local football commentator Sam Young said Melton will take strong form into the clash after another consistent season under coach Troy Scoble.

“Melton’s record under Troy Scoble in Ballarat has been terrific. I think he’s lost one game in two years in the city,” Young said.

Young expects the match to be decided in attack.

“Both sides have dangerous forwards. For Melton, the Carter brothers inside 50 are a real threat, while Sunbury have Tony Lockett Medallist Jake Sutton and Daniel Johnston who can change a game. It will come down to which forward line kicks a winning score,” he said.

He tipped Melton to advance, setting up a rematch with Darley.

“Darley won’t want to see Melton. They’re the only side to have beaten them this season, way back in round one,” Young said.

Central Highlands: Daylesford and Skipton in grand final decider

The Central Highlands FNL grand final pits reigning premiers Daylesford against fast-rising Skipton at Mars Stadium.

Young said the contrasting styles could define the contest.

“Daylesford want to win the contested ball and dominate inside, while Skipton prefer to get on the outside and use their leg speed. Mars Stadium’s bigger ground may help Skipton spread the play,” he said.

He tipped the Emus to claim their first Central Highlands premiership.

“I’ve got Skipton by 12 points. Their ability to change angles and move the ball quickly has been really impressive this season,” Young said.
