Melton maul Sunbury to secure finals footy

August 12, 2019 BY

SCOREBOARD didn’t reflect the difference in this one, as the Bloods were too strong for their eastern bloc counterparts this past Saturday afternoon at MacPherson Park, running out 6.13 (49) to 3.13 (31) winners.

The Bloods kicked the first five goals and held the Lions to only the three behinds in the opening half as they showed to everyone in the footballing world that they are once again true contenders in the McDonalds Ballarat Football League.

Co-captain, and lively forward, Braedan Kight injured his right ankle midway through the second term after landing heavily in a marking contest.

Coach Aaron Tymms did declare his skipper fit to play next week against Sebas despite sitting out the remainder of the game.

Delighted to confirm finals, Tymms said, “It’s been an inconsistent year, we haven’t not fielded a side that hasn’t been great sort of thing but we have had lots of injuries this with two in and two out but we are now really happy with how things are starting to track.”

Jack Walker was also knocked out in the final term for the Bloods and will have to pass all concussion protocols to be right to take on the Kookaburras, while Sunbury lost key defender Daylan Kempster to a suspected hamstring injury that has plagued his  season to date, but will have time to recover as Sunbury have the bye.

With Darley overcoming a gallant North Ballarat City as well this past weekend, it means the top six is now set with East Point and Redan in the top two spots on 48 premiership points, while the other four clubs are locked on 44 premiership points, meaning that its anyone’s guess who will finish where as finals get underway two weeks’ time.
