Mid-week champs downed at home

ROUND 10 of the Ballarat District Bowls Division Monday Pennant was played in stark contrast to seven days ago where teams endured hail, rain and extremely cold weather. Many teams abandoned play last round due to the weather. Monday this week was very hot and windy.

PREMIERS

On the road Central Wendouree caused an upset defeating last year’s premiers Buninyong by seven shots. Central Wendouree now replace City Oval at fourth spot on the ladder. City Oval went down to Clunes by one-shot, Clunes were also the victors when these two teams met in round one. Creswick caused an upset by defeating Sebastopol by 13 shots and Creswick sit in ninth on the ladder, while Sebastopol are third. The Avenue and BMS game was abandoned due to excessive heat. BMS, Buninyong, Sebastopol and Central Wendouree are the four teams on the table.

DIVISION 1

Victoria and City Oval are first and second on the ladder respectively with three points between them, followed by Smeaton and Webbcona. Very little separates the four top teams.

DIVISION 2

Second on the ladder Central Wendouree had a two-shot win over Midlands in the closest contest of the day. Smeaton, Central Wendouree, BMS and Linton make up the top four in this division.

DIVISION 3

Fourth and fifth placed teams Central Wendouree and Smeaton met with the former winning by nine shots. First and second placed Webbcona and Creswick went head-to-head with Webbcona the winners by nine shots. Learmonth forfeited to Victoria.

DIVISION 4

One very close game that saw Creswick go down down to Buninyong 2 by one-shot. The Clunes, Central Wendouree game resulted in a six-shot win to Clunes. The four top teams are, Ballarat North, Bungaree well clear of Beaufort and Buninyong 2.
