Podium success for Pulsar racer

WHEN Josh Gay first jumped on a motorcycle as a four-year-old, he found a love for motorsports.

Dabbling in motocross and go karts, he ended up settling into race cars.

Now 15 years since the petrol fuelled passion began, Gay recently finished second overall, and first out of the rookies in the APRA Pulsar class of the Victorian State Race Series.

As the youngest competitor in a field of experienced Nissan Pulsar drivers, some decades older, Gay drove his N14 in 19 races, completing 18 of them across the controlled class’s five rounds.

A member of the Ballarat Light Car Club, he made podium finishes at three rounds, achieving a second, and a first in the wet at Winton, and a second and third at Phillip Island. Sandown also hosted a round.

Nineteen years old, Gay said he “felt amazing” making such an impression during his first state racing season, where Pulsars travel over 200 km/h.

“It was unreal. The calibre of competition is pretty high, so it’s top of the state basically,” he said.

“There’s nothing better than being in the race car. It’s basically the best feeling you can have.”

His next challenge is the Autocross Series with BLCC, before looking to compete in the APRA Pulsar series in 2020.

With dad, Richard, Gay is looking ahead to develop his Pulsar’s speed with exhaust and dyno work.
