Rush proud of state superstars

BALLARAT-Sebastopol Rush BMX Club made waves at the Victorian State Titles recently, with twenty-five riders between the ages of five and fifty-plus competing.

Held at Casey, at least 14 Rush riders returned to their home track at Marty Busch Reserve with Victorian plates, ranking them amongst the top riders of their age groups.

Siblings, Josh and Alanna Jolly are 13 and 17 years old and both raced at the State Titles. Josh received the Keith Williams Medal for the second year running as the rider with the most points in the 13 Boys division.

Alanna received a 2 Victorian plate, now ranked second in the 17 to 24-year-old Women’s category. She said it was great to race against a larger, challenging group of riders at a bigger venue.

“I didn’t think I was going to do as well as I did. I was close to getting first, most races, and first around most of the track. It was really exciting,” she said.

“The track was smooth and there were a lot of people around. The atmosphere was good.”

Rush President, Rob Pompe “couldn’t be prouder of the club” and its trajectory. He said Rush’s results were “absolutely magnificent.

“Two of our female riders, Johanna Jephcott and Sienna Richmond got 1V, ranked first in Victoria in their age groups, and Shallan Pompe got 2V, second in Victoria, so those kids have come up two or three positions from last year,” he said.

“Really good, podium finishes, and the guys that hadn’t done it before got a V plate, so as a club, it was an awesome effort and turnout. It shows the dedication, hard work and training they’ve put in to get where they are.

“They all loved it and came home with a fantastic result for the club,” Mr Pompe said.
