INTERESTED to horse about among like-minded riders? Why not join the Leigh District Riding Club?

The club is keen to welcome new and returning members and is offering a program of regular gatherings including monthly rallies.

Among members, keen local horsewoman Sue Debets said the social aspect is a main benefit derived from becoming part of the club.

“It offers people friendship alongside the ability to safely enjoy their horse,” Ms Debets said.

“If people want to compete they can and they will be supported. If not they can simply enjoy an outing with their horse in a non-stressful environment.”

The club’s home grounds are at Inverleigh’s Victoria Park and Ms Debets said members of all ages are welcome to join, including juniors.

“We’re a fairly small club. We usually have about 24 members aged from their teens to mid-70s,” she said.

“We recently awarded some life memberships to Narelle Bogle, Leanne Broad, Nikki Rogers and Jess McDonell recognising their service over the decades.

“We have a monthly rally with an instructor and our rallies depend on what people have asked for.

“It might be dressage, poles, jumping or a mix and we have fantastic jumps and obstacles available for members and instructors to use.

“We switch to an indoor arena in winter but Victoria Park is our home ground and our members maintain the arenas and yards there.

“We encourage the non-members who use and enjoy the horse facilities at Victoria Park to join or support the club that maintains them, or simply to make a donation of time or money to Leigh District Riding Club towards the maintenance of the facilities they enjoy.”
