Sebas into BFL grand final
IN fairytale fashion, Sebastopol has booked its place in the Mc Donald’s Ballarat Football League grand final for the first time since 2000 with a come from behind 18-point victory over Melton this past Saturday at the City Oval, winning 12.12 (84) to 10.6 (66).
Shock inclusion, Michael Powell, kicked the opener for the Burra but it was all Bloods from there with the next five goals coming in rapid fashion to give Melton a game high 22-point lead as quarter time approached.
However, some magic from Geoff Lovett gave the Kookaburras a sniff with his first of four majors for the afternoon wobbling through to keep his side within striking distance at the first break.
Lovett continued to provide the spark, and as the game hit his fiery climax his fourth goaled sealed victory and booked Sebastopol’s place in the big one.
Post-game, Sebas skipper Tom Peterson, a player who has been there through all the up’s and down’s that the club has experienced in recent seasons, couldn’t have been prouder of not just his teammates but the supporters too.
“This feeling is just incredible, you just got to look around and see the incredible supporters, all the players, past players and they are just loving it as much as we are,” he said.
A matchup with East Point now beckons a side who very much will walk in as clear favourites after two comprehensive victories over the Burra in the regular home and away season, but also a victory three short weeks ago in the qualifying final.
