Silky Sunbury make it six in a row

THE Lions remain undefeated on their home deck in 2019 and continue to rise up the ladder in the McDonalds Ballarat Football League with a comfortable 43-point victory over Darley this past Saturday at Clarke Oval, winning 9.10. (64) to Darley 2.9 (21).

Finals have been secured for the Lions with a top three, maybe even top two finish on the cards, whilst the Devils remarkably slipped from second on the ladder to sixth and now have to dig deep to become contenders once again.

Sunbury Coach, Travis Hodgson, was delighted with the victory and said, “It has been a big seven to eight weeks, we have set ourselves to try and finish top three, but whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but we no doubt believe that we are good enough.”

This year’s competition has been an extremely tight contest with many drastic fluctuations on the ladder. Hodgson, like most people, believes there is no easy game and it is vital to get that double chance for finals footy because any one can win it this year on their day.

“Compared to finishing one or two, three probably doesn’t look as attractive this year as to previous years, as you play sixth and sixth is as good as you, so there is a little bit of a risk element there so we know we got to continue winning games of footy and get as high as we possibly can on the ladder,” he said.

With only three rounds to go, and four sides equal top and only a game clear of fifth and sixth it is still anyone’s guess where teams will finish.

Darley will be desperate to get ex-Carlton Blue, Nick Graham, back from injury, who was a shock late withdrawal on the weekend.
