TWO North Ballarat Netball Club players marked the same major game milestone on the same day last month, and they just happen to come from the same family.

Sisters Krista and Sami Hay played their 200th games for the Roosters on Saturday 26 August, running on court in B and E grades respectively.

Krista said the shared celebration was a moment to treasure, having been part of North Ballarat FNC since 2009.

“It’s such a family-centred club, and to do it on the same day as my sister was so special,” she said.

“Over the years we’ve had time off overseas, and last year I was off with injury and coached, so to be able to somehow manage to get our 200 games on the same day was super exciting.

“My coach and team were also lovely enough to bring Sam on in B Grade for a few minutes so we could actually play together. For me, that was super special.

“Our parents were overseas, but we got them on Facetime to see it.”

Sami has been a North Ballarat Rooster since 2006, when the netballers had to travel to Bendigo to compete.

Having been involved with nearly every grade over the last 17 years, she said she continues to enjoy the challenges netball throws up, and the club culture.

“I play with a wonderful bunch of girls,” Sami said. “The players, coaches, and all the volunteers behind the scenes are amazing, putting in the hard work, and contributing to the cohesive nature of the club.

“We love the club, and we love playing there. It’s a super positive, uplifting culture where everyone gets around each other.”

Krista said she can’t wait for them both to have children of their own, and hopes one day, if they like football or netball, that they’ll be “Northies” too.
