Swans look to upset in short round
Ballarat v Sunbury
BACK-to-back wins for the Swans has shown the footballing world that they are no easy beats with the club recording another upset victory over a much more fancied opponent in the last round of the McDonalds Ballarat Football League. They all but ended Bacchus Marsh’s season and will fancy themselves against another Eastern Bloc team in Sunbury this weekend. The Lions are one game off top of the ladder and will have to be at their very best to avoid joining Melton and the Cobras on the Ballarat hit list. Prediction – Sunbury in a tight one.
Darley v Melton South
The Devils need to bounce back against the struggling Panthers in a big way with a percentage boosting win a must. The Graham brothers were good against the Burra last week, but not at their mercurial best. Since returning from an ACL injury that kept him out for over a year, premiership player Leigh Spiteri was the Devils best in last week’s loss with his three goals and 25-possessions being the best output he has had since returning. The Panthers were gutsy against Sunbury for a half of footy but fell away in the second. Would expect a similar result this weekend at Darley Park. Prediction – Devils by 60 points.
East Point v Melton
Match of the Round with the second crack at last year’s grand final replay with the Kangaroos hosting the out of form Bloods at the Eastern Oval. The Kangaroos are expected to be still without the man who was best on ground in that game last year, Matthew Johnston, who is struggling to over concussion symptoms that has unfortunately plagued his young career. It is a must win for the Bloods, with a loss bringing them level on points with a red-hot North Ballarat City and meaning that their finals aspirations could come in real jeopardy with a tough run home. Prediction – East Point by 24 points.
