MEMBERS of the Moorabool Valley Masters Football Club are heading to Perth later this month as a part of the Victorian country masters team for the 2024 AFL Masters National Carnival.

While in Perth, the team will take part in three matches over six days.

“Each year they have a National Carnival and there are ages ranging from over 35s right up to over 60s,” said team member Michael Devlin.

“Within our club we have 15 players representing Victoria Country over about five different age groups.”

Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham recognised the 15 players by presenting them with citizen recognition awards.

The players said it is important to have opportunities for men to get out of the house and socialise.

The award recognises residents who compete in a state level or above competition.

“It was good for the club because it will put the club on the map,” said team member Ange Fatone.

“People will know we are out here playing and looking after the old fellas.”

Four new members have joined the group this year and the team are open to more new players.

Any interested community members can contact the team via their Facebook page.

Devlin said it is important to have opportunities for men to get out of the house and socialise through initiatives like masters football.

“The demographic that’s involved with the club is probably the most at risk,” he said.

“They are probably the generation where there least likely to talk about it as well.”
