Things heading north at Easts

BALLARAT East Bowling Club president Mick Kay is proud of what’s being achieved at Bradshaw Street Golden Point.

“Our club is travelling well overall with good performances on the green together with securing a sound financial position enabling the club to look forward to a competitive season this year,” he said.

“We have been most fortunate to secure the services of Scotty Roberts to look after our greens during the past two seasons and the improvement of the green and the presentation of the playing surfaces over this time has had enormous benefit to our players.

“The experience for our Pennant sides to play on good quality grass greens during the course of the season will be of great benefit if we can go on to play finals at the season’s conclusion.”

When it comes to success on those home greens, and others in the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Regions is also something top of Kay’s mind.

“Our Division 3 side meets Smeaton this coming Saturday and we take every match as a danger game so we hope a further win for the side will keep us heading the division ladder with seven straight wins,” he said.

“All rinks are having a good season with Peter Wilson’s rink being undefeated so far with its six straight victories.”

“Last Saturday we travelled to City Oval who bowled impressively against us given they were only promoted into the division this year after winning last season’s Division 3 flag.

“It was only in the last 15 or so ends that we got away from them to take out the game”.

“We are also enjoying success in Division 7 where our side also remains undefeated and head up the ladder.

“In the previous years during COVID we rotated a few of our bowlers through giving them experience playing in the higher division and I am sure this experience has strengthened our second side.

“They had a good win on Saturday against Victoria who at that point were undefeated.”

This coming Saturday Ballarat East’s Division 7 side will travel to Skipton with the aim of continuing their success.

Ballarat East Division 9 side will be coming off a bye in the seven side competition which is a tight race overall between the teams.

A trip to City Oval this Saturday and a further win will mean further progress up the ladder from fourth position.

“We will benefit with a number of players returning to the Club in the coming week and this should particularly strengthen our Division 7 and 9 sides,” said Kay.
