THIS season, try something new at Haddon Community Learning Centre with a range of training, courses and workshops on offer.<\/p>\n

The spring course guide includes sessions such as computer training, first aid and food handling courses, and more creative workshops about growing herbs, making vision boards and baking sourdough.<\/p>\n

Centre assistant manager Rick Bushell teaches the Develop Your Online Presence course and he said the program is about lessening the digital divide.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“There are many areas where there are issues on society with segregation and one of those areas is what we call the digital divide,” he said.<\/p>\n

“What we’re trying to do is bridge some of that gap.<\/p>\n

“There are lots of people out in the community that have great business ideas, but the digital side is often one area that may not be an area of expertise.”<\/p>\n

The course runs each Friday, and participants learn about digital marketing tools and creating a digital marketing strategy.<\/p>\n

Elly Glenton completed the course last term, and she said it is suitable for people of all ages and stages of life.<\/p>\n

“It’s not just young or old, it’s really across the board for everyone to be able to be included in it,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The bite sized chunk every week of two and a half hours was an easy commitment to be able to manage.”<\/p>\n

Mr Bushell, who has more than 30 years’ experience with small businesses, said he hopes to create a business hub at the centre where owners can connect, even after finishing a course.<\/p>\n
