{"id":100293,"date":"2024-11-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-23T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=100293"},"modified":"2024-11-21T01:32:55","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T14:32:55","slug":"bus-trip-to-tour-through-the-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/bus-trip-to-tour-through-the-past\/","title":{"rendered":"Bus trip to tour through the past"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MEMBERS of the Woady Yaloak Historical Society are inviting everyone to take a journey through the shire&#8217;s north with a bus tour next month.<\/p>\n<p>The group&#8217;s president Kylie Fenton said the drive will be an insightful and engaging one showcasing the region&#8217;s history.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The multi-fold aim is to really take people around the historical areas over the whole northern end of Golden Plains Shire,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Whilst we&#8217;re doing that, we&#8217;ll be covering areas we haven&#8217;t covered previously which is the geography of the area. We&#8217;ll also cover some families in the area, the police areas, and old highways.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/11\/GoorakSchoolnearBack_05015.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"501\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Goorak School near Back Hill Hotel, will be one of several landmarks on the trip.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Towns and localities including Haddon, Trunk Lead, Bo Peep, Lake Burrumbeet, Carngham, Snake Valley, Linton, Devil&#8217;s Kitchen, Newtown, and Scarsdale will feature in the itinerary.<\/p>\n<p>The trip will be complemented by a booklet created by historical society member Laurie Moore, who&#8217;ll present on the geography and past character of each destination.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He&#8217;ll be discussing the gold leaves, lava flows, how Lake Burrumbeet was formed over the years, and why people decided to settle here to farm,&#8221; Ms Fenton said.<\/p>\n<p>Some information for the booklet is being sourced from a larger work on Nintingbool and Haddon, which society members are now\u00a0developing.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2024\/11\/LookingNorthalongthe_05071.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"561\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lake Burrumbeet will feature in the itinerary.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lunch will be provided at Happy Valley Hall. The coach is able to seat 50 attendees, with the majority of seats sold already.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Fenton said the bus trip is the group&#8217;s first since before COVID.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did all sorts of trips in the area but we wanted to make this a nice big Christmas thing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The previous trips were very popular and pretty well sold out.
