MEMBERS of the Cape Clear community are meeting regularly to share a meal and make connections.<\/p>\n
Held each Thursday night during school terms, the dinners are open to anyone from the area.<\/p>\n
“COVID made everyone realise how broken communities are and how isolated communities are,” Cape Clear, Illabarook and Rokewood Junction community committee president Evelyn Cannon said.<\/p>\n
“All the committees in the area are trying to really put in an effort and making sure ther’re things in the community for people to do.<\/p>\n
“Food often brings people out and the cost of living is really hard on a lot of households.”<\/p>\n
The dinner costs $9 per person and includes a homestyle cooked meal as well as one hot and cold drink.<\/p>\n
Money from the dinner goes back into the community for future activities, and dietary requirements can be catered for.<\/p>\n
Ms Cannon said it is great to see a diverse range of attendees, the oldest so far being 92 years old and the youngest 10 months old.<\/p>\n
“We’ve had a real spread of people,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We’ve got some comfortable couches for people to sit down now after dinner and the kids bring along some board games to play.<\/p>\n
“It’s just a really lovely evening.”<\/p>\n
Cape Clear community dinners are held each Thursday from 6pm during school terms at the recreation reserve.<\/p>\n
