GOLDEN Plains Shire will host two morning tea sessions next month to educate older residents about heat awareness and fire safety.<\/p>\n

‘Escape the Heat’ morning teas will be held Tuesday 4 February and Tuesday 11 February at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre and The Well at Smythesdale respectively.<\/p>\n

“Council’s Escape the Heat program has been running for several years and is designed to offer older residents in Golden Plains the opportunity to come together and learn about heat awareness and fire safety,” a Golden Plains Shire spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

Each session will include speakers from the CFA and a community nurse who will discuss fire prevention and health, and attendees can ask questions.<\/p>\n

“At the morning tea sessions, attendees will hear from two guest speakers \u2013 a community nurse from HESSE Rural Health and a member of the local CFA who will provide information about heat health, fire prevention and safety,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Older people in Golden Plains may be especially vulnerable to heat-related illness and as the weather warms up, there’s an increasing risk of fire danger.<\/p>\n

“Providing older residents with safety information during the warmer months ensures they are prepared for hotter weather and is critical for their health and wellbeing.”<\/p>\n
